Used as a healing therapy since early Egyptian times, the technique that modern Reflexologists use has been developed through research into zone therapy (by Dr William Fitzgerald in 1913) and the 'mapping' of feet and hands to mirror parts of the body (by Eunice Ingham & other therapists in 1930s).

It is now widely recognised as a gentle and effective Complementary Therapy.

Through working on the reflex points with their hands, Reflexologists can detect imbalances in the feet, release the blockages and restore the flow of energy to the body. This encourages the body to heal itself and restore its natural balance - often counteracting a lifetime of misuse!

The International Institute of Reflexology:

Formed in 1952, The International Institute of Reflexology is the oldest established reflexology teaching organisation and is dedicated to teaching the Ingham Method of Reflexology worldwide.

It is dedicated to teaching the correct Ingham Method thereby perpetuating the work of its founder, Eunice Ingham – the recognised pioneer of Reflexology as practised in the western world.

The International Institute of Reflexology (UK) is a founder member of The Reflexology Forum – a regulatory body working for the good of the profession and setting professional standards.

In October 2006 the IIR(UK) membership merged with the Association of Relflexologists, pulling together two of the oldest established reflexology memberships in the UK and represents a further coming together of the reflexology profession around standards and integrity.
